Budding Indigo - How it all started

One of the beliefs I have of counselling, is to support. So when it came to naming the private practice, that was the route I was going down.
It started with “Green Leaf” because most plants have leaves to help them grow and thrive, which reminds me a lot about counselling. As counsellors and therapists, we are here to support our clients so they can flourish in their lives, no matter what they have been through. And I suppose other people have very similar thoughts too, so with no surprise that I found there’s an existing green leaf.
The idea of growth had rooted in my mind so I started sorting alternatives like a seed fighting for sunlight, even though it landed in between the crack on the side of the road. The word “budding” came up on the thesaurus and I love the sound of it. Budding might sound like it only describes flowers! But if you walk close to a tree, you can see the buds before they turn to leaves or branches; when you bend down and observe the grass, they also bud before they seed.
Coming from a different cultural background and English as my second language, the lack of awareness of “English can be misleading” when I excitedly presented “Budding Green”; in exchange of a comment that the name has a strong association to cannabis.
Yet, thanks to my fellow colleague, Prerna, who suggested “Indigo” - in India meant “movement” and “growth”, Budding Indigo was born.
Through the aspect of budding and indigo we would like to welcome and include your mental health as something that is dynamic. Something that naturally changing and evolving - not something that has an on or off button. Something that encourages you to journey with a companion like ourselves - exploring, learning and “living” it all.
